RULES AND REGULATIONS

Regulations on Flowers and Decorations

If you have any questions, please contact the cemetery office. We appreciate hearing from you. This enables us to review and improve our service to you and all of the families using the cemeteries.

The cemetery is a public place; people come and go from dawn to dusk, seven days a week. As a result, we are not able to protect attractive items from theft. In making choices, it is unfortunate, but necessary to keep this in mind.

Flower and Ornament Policy

Safety is paramount. Decorations need to be safe for those who visit the cemeteries and for the cemetery workers and the equipment. To insure this, all items need to be placed in an approved vase. Dangerous items such as glass, pottery, wood, wooden crosses and metal are always removed as soon as they are observed.

Glass, pottery, statuary, wooden crosses, photographs or memorabilia are not permitted on, or adjacent to, any burial space, crypt, tree, landscaped area, or any memorial, monument, feature or statuary. Open flames are prohibited in any of the cemeteries. This includes such items as candles, fires or barbeques.

Cutting into the lawn, placement of fencing, plants, and borders around graves are not permitted. No landscaping plants or materials are to be removed or added to the cemetery grounds. Splicing into the irrigation system is not permitted.

Decoration Removal

Decorations may be removed under any of the following conditions.

  • Each year, on the last week of January and the last week of July, for general clean-up. Please mark these days on your family calendar.

  • Seasonal decorations will be removed ten days after major holidays.

  • When cemetery rules and regulations are violated.

  • At certain times of the year, as the desert southwest experiences high winds and torrential rains, flowers may be blown from vases.

  • The cemetery reserves the right to remove all flowers and decorations when they become withered or unsightly. The grounds superintendent will make removals when they impede normal grounds maintenance.

Holiday Adornments

For decorating purposes, the following holidays are observed at our cemeteries:

  • Easter

  • Memorial Day

  • Veterans Day

  • Mother’s day

  • Father’s day

  • Fourth of July

  • All Souls Day

  • Christmas

  • New Years Day

Holiday decorations may be placed within an approved vase seven days prior to these holidays. Items with a holiday theme or items not in the vase are removed ten days after the holiday.

Regulations – Landscaping and Planting

The Diocese of Tucson Catholic Cemeteries adheres to the following guidelines regarding landscaping, plants and materials.

  • No landscaping, plants, trees or materials are to be removed or added to the cemetery grounds without written authorization by the Executive Director of the cemeteries.

  • Unauthorized planting will be removed.

  • Any person or person(s) removing or moving landscaping plants or materials from the cemetery grounds is subject to arrest by local law agencies.

  • The digging of holes for any purpose whatsoever, other than by cemetery employees, is strictly prohibited.

  • Ornaments, such as plastic decorations, pinwheels, animal figurines, balloons, etc. are not permitted.
