Decorating for Holidays
The Diocese of Tucson Catholic Cemeteries adheres to the following regarding decorations for burial sites:
The following holidays are observed:
Christmas, Easter, Memorial Day, Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, All Souls Day
Holiday decorations may be placed within a Permanent Retractable vase ten (10) days prior to these holidays. Items that are not in the vases and items that are clearly identified as appropriate to the holiday only will be removed ten (10) days after the holiday and disposed of.
- Safety is paramount. Whether the item being placed is only at the site as a holiday decoration, it must be safe. Items, which are dangerous, even if only placed for a holiday, will be removed as soon as they are observed.
- The Cemetery is a public place, people come and go from dawn to dusk, seven days a week. The cemetery is not able to protect attractive items from theft. In making choices, it is unfortunate, but necessary to keep this in mind.
- Even with holiday decorations, it is important to remember that good taste is still appropriate and quality is more important than quantity. Only one floral display or decoration is permitted on a burial site.
- Flags- see American Flag Display and Removal for details.
